Defective sliding door locks: Kia Carnival minivans recalled | Automotive News

Kia is recalling certain Carnival vans in Canada and the United States due to a structural problem that could potentially cause the passenger side sliding door to inadvertently open, especially when the vehicle is in motion.

A total of 3,092 Kia Carnival 2022 MPVs in North America are affected by the recall, including 2,956 in the United States and 136 in Canada.

Some plastic brackets inside the sliding door remote control assembly release actuator may have been improperly manufactured by a company supplying the components, according to the manufacturer. If this is the case, the connection between the drum and the support could cause the latch to lock intermittently in the open position. In turn, the door is then not properly locked and could potentially open on its own.

Kia stresses that warning chimes and a warning signal on the dashboard should alert drivers when the latch is not properly secured. According to Transport Canada, when drivers drive the vehicle over 10 km / h, “a continuous door ajar bell will sound and the door ajar warning will display a flashing red symbol”.

Kia says it will notify owners by mail and ask them to take their vehicle to a dealership to repair the passenger-side power sliding door latch.
