Company charges woman nearly $ 28,000 for one-day car rental

DENVER (KDVR) – Kendra Parris headed to Denver on a quick day trip to help plan her future vacation, unsure she would be leaving the state with a big receipt.

“I jumped on my credit card statement and saw that they charged me $ 28,000 for the day I was rented,” Parris said.

Parris told FOX31 Problem Solvers that she rented a Mitsubishi Outlander from May 25-26 at the Budget Car Rental station at Denver International Airport. She said she had taken him to the mountains, putting around 100-200 miles on the car.

“They billed me for every kilometer driven with the car and then almost 3,000 taxes and fees,” Parris said.

The exact amount of $ 27,826.34 was deposited into Parris’ credit card on Wednesday. She said a few days later when a different charge was turned down, that’s when she realized how much Budget had charged her.

She said she returned to the rental car drop-off area and dropped off the car with the gas tank filled to the exact amount she picked it up with and received the receipt by email, but hadn’t checked it right away.

“I would love to get answers,” Parris said.

She said she spent most of her Friday trying to reach someone at the budget office, but was put on hold for a long time. The problem solvers also made calls and waited 30 minutes until someone finally answered.

The Problem Solvers contacted a company spokesperson. They responded with a statement:

“Thank you for drawing our attention to this point. After reviewing the rental transaction, it is evident that there was an error and we have fully refunded the customer. We will contact the customer to resolve the problem.

Parris said that after FOX31 Problem Solvers had a conversation with the company, she finally heard from Budget.

They sent him an email confirming a full refund, which they had to split into four credits.

“Once again, we apologize for the frustration and inconvenience this matter has caused you,” the company told him.

Parris said she would use Budget again in the future.

“I immediately panicked. I thought they charged me the full price of the vehicle, ”Parris said.

She said she was convinced it was all just a mistake, but she wants to warn other travelers to be aware and check their receipts before jumping on that next flight.

“For a lot of people, if the timing had been different it could have been a disaster. Their automatic payments that would not have been made, ”Parris said.
